What Is the All-On Dental System?

The All-On dental implant system utilizes dental implants to restore some of your missing teeth. Dental implants are a permanent solution to tooth loss. But that does not mean you have to replace every single tooth with an implant. That can get expensive fast!

A more affordable option is the All-On system, which utilizes four, six, or eight implants.

  • All-On-4: A total of four implants. Two in the upper jaw, two in the lower.
  • All-On-6: Six implants. Three on top and three on the bottom.
  • All-On-8: Eight implants total. Four placed into the upper jaw, four on the bottom. (This option offers the maximum amount of security and stability, but it is also the more expensive option.

Your dentist will need a CT scan to determine how much bone is available for the implants since the jawbone can start to recede when you lose your teeth. Depending on your budget, the amount of bone you have, and your oral health, your dentist can place four, six, or eight implants into the bone.

The implants will support your complete denture. Instead of fitting directly onto the gum tissue like traditional dentures, the denture has little holes with screws that fit over the implants. Once all the holes are aligned, your dentist will screw the denture onto the implants. Now, you have a permanent prosthetic that restores your dentition, your smile, and proper bite alignment.

What Are the Benefits of All-On-4 (or -6 or -8) Dental Implants

The benefits of implant-retained dentures are:

  • They make your dentures permanent and non-detachable
  • Because the dentures are secured onto the implants, the denture will not rub against the gums, causing sore spots
  • The fit is incredibly secure, allowing you to speak and eat normally without worrying that your dentures will become loose or come out
  • No need for denture adhesive
  • More comfort, more confidence

How to Care for Your Implant Dentures

You will need to brush your denture like you would brush your teeth. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush (not medium or hard as these can damage the denture) and non-abrasive toothpaste to brush your denture – front, back, “gums,” and the biting surfaces.

You will need to clean around the implants as well. Your Post Office Square dental team will demonstrate how to do this. You will need a special floss threader to thread the floss under the denture. Floss once a day.

Using a Waterpik can help clean out debris from under the denture as well.

You will still need to visit your dentist twice a year for dental cleanings as plaque and calculus can build up around the implants. Think of your implants like real teeth. You do not want to end up with gum disease and bone loss.

Secure Dentures Can Help Keep You Healthy

Your Post Office Square dentist is not just concerned with your oral health; we are also concerned with your overall health. Teeth are an important part of digestion. In fact, they are the first stage of the digestive process. If you are not able to comfortably eat nutrient-dense foods because of uncomfortable dentures, you can experience nutrient deficiency.

Investing in the All-On system, you get more secure dentures that will help you eat just about anything you want. Not only will this system help keep your jawbone and gums healthy, but it will also keep your body and immune system healthy.
