Dental Implants and Implant-Supported Dentures

One of the most exciting surgical services we provide is dental implants.

Implants restore missing teeth. A metal screw is placed into the jawbone and integrates with the bone within a few months. The implant acts as the root of a tooth. We will place a dental crown over an attachment that screws into the implant base. Once treatment is completed, you will have a restoration that looks, feels, and functions like a real tooth.

Typically, two surgeries are required to place an implant. During the first surgery, we create access into the jawbone where the implant will sit. After some weeks of healing, we will perform minor surgery to remove some of the gum tissue that covers the top of the implant. This gives us access to the implant so we can secure a crown to it (once the tissue has healed).

What Are Implant-Supported Dentures and What Are the Benefits?

Implant-supported dentures are dentures that fit over implants.

This type of denture is ideal for edentulous patients because it:

  • Makes the dentures more secure
  • Prevents jawbone recession
  • Makes wearing a denture more comfortable

Implants are placed in strategic locations in the jawbone. Once you have healed from your surgery, we will deliver a denture that snaps onto the implants. The denture is securely in place. You will not have to use denture adhesive or worry about your dentures slipping while talking or eating.

Simple Extractions

A simple tooth extraction is one in which we remove the tooth using forceps. After numbing the tooth and gums, we use these forceps to gently rock the tooth back and forth until it comes out of the bone.

Your Post Office Square oral surgeon performs simple extractions for several reasons, including:

  • Tooth infection
  • Deep decay
  • Failed root canal
  • Gum disease/loss of bone
  • Orthodontic purposes
  • Crowding
  • Baby teeth removal

Wisdom Tooth Extractions in Post Office Square

Wisdom teeth removal is often a surgical procedure. Many people simply do not have room in their mouth for their wisdom teeth to fully erupt, resulting in a partial or full impaction.

To remove the teeth, we need to use a scalpel to expose the tooth and bone. We can then use forceps or other surgical means to remove the wisdom teeth.

In many cases, surgical extractions in Post Office Square – including wisdom teeth removal – are done under IV sedation. In addition to numbing the teeth and gums, we deliver sedative medication via an IV so they can sleep through the procedure, which ensures that the patient:

  • Does not feel any sensations (such as pressure)
  • Experiences less anxiety
  • Is comfortable throughout the entirety of the procedure
